Porto San Vincenzo

Yesterday we sailed from our mooring, with a nice breeze and a flat sea to Porto San Vincenzo.
A good move because late evening and during the night the wind from the West became a storm.
The waves hitting harshly on the port wall.
The port is very nice and well build, the village has no style and looks like nothing.
Maybe completely rebuild after an earth quake or some other disastrous event.
We are stuck here till the sea calms down. Some sailboats went out and quickly came back after 1/2 hour. Rattled and shaken.
We went for a walk about on the dam, while the sea was trying everything to bash it up. So all we got was some nice pictures of a wild sea and completely showered by the salty spray.
Otherwise nice weather, cleaning and Roy having a haircut by a dentist! 😜 It did not even hurt.
Mo shopping to do. Now waiting till we can take to the sea and Elba.

Porto di Pisa

De Viareggio au port de Pise nous avons navigué que trois heures au moteur. Temps mitigé et houle qui m'a permit de faire une grosse sieste jusqu'au port de Pise où Roy a dû gueuler pour me réveiller pour l'aider à s'amarer. Port tout neuf, reconstruit il y a cinq ans, mais très cher... 40 euro la nuit!!!
Ce port est situé à l' embouchure du fleuve Arno qui passe, entre autre, à Florence. on peut y voir des carrelet, ce système de pêche spécifique des embouchures comme en Gironde.
Départ du port avec une forte houle et un vent soutenu qui n'a pas duré, hélas. Un peu de musique pour suivre le rytme des vagues...
Nous avons passé rapidement Livourne, entre des monstres de mer où le vent est tombé...au moteur, nous avons décidé de mouiller dans l'anse de Castiglioncello. La féérie de la côte Toscane a laissé place, au détour du cap, à une vision moins glamour; une centrale nucléaire.

 

Via Reggio (+Firenze)

After another 27 churches, from Porto Venere we passed in front of the Carrara mountains containing the famous marble, like snow on the lower part of the hills. And also kilometers of beaches, while Hélène cooked a great lunch under sail. Not easy but excellent.
Got into the port of Viareggio, probably the largest port for private yacht building in Italy. All the main builders are here Benetti, Perini Navi, etc.
The town crowded with thousands of people walking the streets along a 5 km beach front for Easter weekend. Around the port a bit lower class people and further down some magnificent luxury villas.
Bad weather coming our way.
Thus Easter Monday we took the train to Firenze and did some walk about, together with another  million visitors to check out all the churches at every street corner.
We got back on Tuesday afternoon to Viareggio,  from a very romantic trip and the crowds were gone and also the electricity, blown by the heavy rain.

 

Cinque Terre

Les Cinque Terre sont, comme le nom l'indique, cinq villages de pécheurs perchés sur la falaises. Des GR (chemins de grandes randonnées) les rendent accessibles dans un panorama grandiose.
Mon but c`était de faire Vernazza à  Corniglia a pied par le GR, hélas arrivée en haut le GR était fermé! Ambiance tres touristique, trop... heureusement, Roy n'était pas encore parti car il se battait avec la chaine de mouillage bloquée dans une faille durant la nuit un peu agitée. J'ai pu prendre une photo du tout petit bateau vu d'en haut.
Une petite brise, voir de bonnes rafales, nous ont emmené jusqu'à Porto Venere où nous avons facilement trouvé une bouée de mouillage libre.
Les majestueuses montagnes de Toscane nous ont peint un magnifique camaïlleux au coucher de soleil. Sans parler de l'extraordinaire lever de pleine lune, géante, orange.

Levanto

Partis de St Margherita, arrivés à Moneglia, trouvé un mouillage et passé la nuit.
Lendemain en route pour les Cinque Terre, nous nous sommes arretés à Levento pour déjeuner et faire qq courses. Il y avait des tres belles demeures des pauvres italiens.
Partis encore une fois au moteur vers le rêve de Hélène de se promener au Cinque Terre.

After nice sailing from Varazze to Portofino, partly with strong wind NE, then nothing and then wind SE. Around 5 nothing so back on engine. Sailed into the port of Portofino, practically empty! Lined with restaurants.
Too much noise so we attached to a buoy in the next little bay. Very quiet, had some dinner and sleep.
Next morning plan to go back to Portofino, put air into the tender and ready to go.
Except the engine was completely blocked, no way to turn it.
Then came the boat of the Guardia Costiere telling us that we cannot attach to a buoy. Told them, engine problem. They could not help or tow us. Hardly any wind, so we tried to sail to the next port.
Speed 0,002 kn. In the end put the outboard on the dinghy, tied it to the side of the boat and pulled slowly yo Santa Margherita. We called them and the came out to pull us to a berth. The port was destroyed in October and work going on. So the port very empty.
Started to take the front of the engine apart. Looks like bearing gone on the seawater pump. Called Volvo dealer in next port Rapallo (totally destroyed  in October). The mechanics came and found the same, took the pump with them for repair. Hope to get it back in a day or two.
Helene went to take some pictures and here they are.
Morning of the 17th the mechanics arrived with the renovated pump. 30 min. installation and everything working again.
Ready to go to new adventures.

Varazze (Ligure)

Départ de Finale Ligure hier très tôt pour Roy. Donc 9:30.
D`abord au moteur et vers Savona avec un bon vent assez serré. Surpris par qlq rafales on a encore cassé un verre en mille morçeaux.
Arrivés au port de Varazze on découvre un lieu somptueux et très moderne, à part le wifi du port impeccable mais sans débit. Enfin plein de monde, weekend oblige.
En prévision de la tempête prévue pour dimanche nous avons décidé de rester 2 nuits.
La ville de Varazze est un petit bijou avec des maisons avec des trompes l`oeil de toute beauté.
Nous avons encore beaucoup marché /trottiné pour découvrir tous les trésors des ruelles.
Ce dimanche c`est les rameaux, donc beaucoup d`ambiance devant les nombreuses églises.

Hier soir et toute la nuit, pas de vent mais de la pluie en trombe et de l`orage. Ça a bien lavé le bateau. Ce matin vers 11h, le vent c`est subitement levé en force et durera toute la nuit.
Les mâts chantent et les bataux dansent.

Alassio to Finale Ligure

We were not supposed to leave Alassio today because of the weather.
This morning we went to do some food shopping in Alassio. However after a long long walk we got to the village, basically a tourist trap. No supermarket, oh yes we found a tiny shop that sold food stuff, but nothing we could need. So we had a coffee and walked back to the port.
And thus we left.
The wind looked nice, sea ok and even some sun.
After 3/4 hour the wind dropped to 0, thus back on the engine with a strong sea on the bow.
Gradually more wind, and some more and some more sea, up to 24 kn.
So we headed for the next port, Finale Ligure. No point overdoing things.
Once moored and water and electricity working, we went to town for a long walk to get some food. We were lucky... there was a super market, with all goodies we needed. And we walked back.
So we had a drink, and dinner.

We left San Remo after waterpump repair, fill up on diesel and water and off we went in the pissing rain and... no wind.

Partis de St Jean le dimanche et arrivés San Remo l`apres midi.
Le lendemain apres midi sorti de l`eau et le mardi 2 couches d`anti fouling.
Encore un fuite d`eau à la pompe à réparer. Et le moteur fait encore parfois chier pour démarer.
